Dan’s first computer was one he soldered together in 1977. It was designed by Heathkit, a company that pioneered electronics kits in the 1960s and 1970s. May it rest in peace!
Programming for a hobby, Dan learned about one of the first programmable calculators, the HP41. Joining a local user group that was exploring “synthetic programming”, he learned interesting things like HP-IL commands, formatting disks and magnetic tapes, and modifying registers in the CPU.
Fast forward to today, it’s been a great ride. DOS, UNIX, Solaris, Windows (3, 3.1 with networking, 95, 97, xp, 2000, 7, 8, and 8.1), Mac OS 5-6-7-8-9, Linux, and all the other stuff: open source, great programs like MySQL, Qmail, Apache, Xen virtualization, cloud services and all the others. Knowing all of these things provides a strong foundation to understanding phplist.
Dan has read all the books and documentation available for phplist, studied the config.php file, queried the database, connected it to his custom qmail server. All of this was done to support his customer’s needs and requirements. Dan uses phplist every day to send over 50,000,000 emails per year. He also has has a USPS direct mail business. Think ‘physical and digital messaging’, run by a true geek!
